Outdated satellite imagery

Is it just me or has Google mucked up the satellite imagery for Trinidad? It seems that when they switched from Bing images to Google images we now have a bunch of images that are now years out of date from what was there just a few days ago... any way to complain to the Waze/Google folks to hopefully fix this?

Unfortunately there will be winners & losers from the switch to Google imagery. It sounds like T&T may be one of the losers - as is some of the UK and other places across Europe. :(

Waze have already stated that we can no longer use Bing aerials.

I think the images in Earth come from many different sources - and are probably under different licences. What appears on Maps (and hence Waze) may not be as recent because those are the ones with less restrictive licenses.

iainhouse not only are the images more than five years old, they a misaligned in many areas (as seen here https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-61.64 ... 12&env=row) prompting inexperienced users to adjust the roads to match the images with some very bad results.
Someone actually aligned both of the segments here to match the satellite images so the road had a sudden shift to the side. All the images are off in this area as can be seen by comparing the satellite images against the "GPS points" layer further to the ease (https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-61.60 ... TT&env=row).

Out dated images are less of a problem than misaligned images. High traffic areas will have GPS points to draw the roads that exist, but low traffic areas with multiple shifts in alignment are are a pain. I try to align the image to the GPS points where they exist then draw the roads based on the images in the low traffic areas. If the image shifts again I realign the image based on what i've drawn previously.

Hugh increase increase in number and visibility of GPS Points in the Layers. Should help us keep the roads on the right track.

Folks,
Please remember to check the "GPS points" layer to validate satellite image alignment before adjusting or drawing new roads. People are aligning roads to the satellite images in areas where the images are misaligned and they no longer match up to the GPS tracks causing Waze to incorrectly place you on the map. This is especially true at junctions ramps and turnoffs where Waze could place you on the wrong road and end up recalculating your route.

I have been arguing this point with my brother for a while and I think that in low traffic areas with less gps data pts it may be better to align roads with the satellite imagery. I agree however that this should not be the case in high traffic areas with more gps data where roads should be aligned along the mean of the data points. Let me know what you think about it.

I know the google images would have been outdated for Trinidad, but i was hoping the the feature to look at past and present images as in google earth would have been added.
