Ah ok didn't know that. In the wiki I have read that everyone is permitted to edit such streets so I thought it would be locked. Well, I will wait then.. thank you!

Hi Bab and welcome to Waze editing! Once you routes start to roll, be sure to turn on the edit area layer to see where your edit range.

Your forum join date shows yesterday, is it possible that you just have not got editing permissions yet?

It's in theory better with the newly written processes but it might take some time to get permission to edit. Which are only with one mile of where you have driven with the software on.
