Discussion items, not necessarily wrong...

174) Waze routed through here and there was a UR about it this morning. Should this be a Parking Lot Segment instead of a Service Road? Thoughts?

175) I drove through here last week. The highlighted segment was blank and Waze did NOT give direction to bear left to this segment. I added the name temporarily. I thought Waze was supposed to route you through no-name ramps? Is there a specific reason why not here? Did a behavior change? I'd rather remove the segment name I added and have Waze route the driver through the area using the second split.

176) Should SR-20 be named throughout "State Route 20" Why is most of it McLean Blvd? Furthermore, should the road type be a Minor Highway or a Major Highway like some of the State Routes?

By the definition in the road descriptions, I'm not sure if a Minor Highway is the right road type.

There is another State Route I saw yesterday in a similar situation, but I can't find it now :).

Thoughts?

175) I didn't drive through there enough to play around with it. Right now the directions should work, although not 100% ideal. Still 99% better than it was.

orbitc wrote:176: OK. Both names are correct but I would keep it uniform. Be consistent. Personally, for this road I would use McLean Blvd and add the State Route 20 as the alternate name. I think based on the below this could be classified as Primary

Freeway - ANYTHING limited access, be it Interstate, US Hwy, State Hwy, County Route, or any paved surface open to the public.

Major Hwy - US Hwy which is NOT a bypass or business route, plus those rare non-limited access portions of Interstates

Minor Hwy - State Hwys and US bypass and Business routes

Primary - County routes or any street favored by traffic
I think many of the ramps going to the 'highway' say "State Route 20". We would have to double check. If that is the case, it should say that.

In terms of road types, I envision:

Primary - A road, with lights and intersections, that are the main roads where cars can drive through in a town.

Minor Highway - A road, with lights and intersections, where "routing of through traffic is not a priority", but merely more of label on a highly congested road.

Major Highway - Higher speed, multi lanes, separated directions of traffic, limited access, local business access is restricted

Look at the street view here: http://www.bing.com/maps/Default.aspx?e ... BwPTUwODI=

This looks a lot like a Major Highway (Higher speed, multi lanes, separated directions of traffic, limited access, local business access is restricted) than a Minor Highway (http://www.bing.com/maps/Default.aspx?e ... FwcD01MDgy).

Am I wrong? I'm reading the wiki and it just sounds like it is mis-categorized. Maybe Weeezer14 would have insight. He is usually good with this type of stuff.

I think we are only discussing whether it should be between those 2 (Primary/Freeway are definitely not in the discussion). What makes you think, based on the Wiki's description, it should be a minor highway?

I was looking one of the old post by one of the Waze Champs. I think, looking at it again, this seems more of a Major Highway. :?
I know... right??? lol.

First, you don't want a real junction because Waze might someday try to route a car onto the tracks. Second, if you have a junction in the road with no other roads (or tracks) intersecting it, my feeling about putting in fake junctions to show details of congestion is that they serve no purpose. If you can't get off the road, if Waze can't try to find you an alternate route, then what you want is the congestion for the whole real segment.

ncc1701v,

I believe there were a few Waze generated map errors, today alone in my editable area, where it WANTED a junction with the RR. See one of my previous posts. I don't want us 'fixing' all of these issues, to only have Waze tell us constantly that it wants us to put it back in. And people will, if they see the notifications.
