U-Turn on Cambridge St. in Allston, Ma

Post by usa_flahes9p
When travelling west on Cambridge St. in Allston the shortest route to gain access to the MA Turnpike(I-90) is to make a legal U-Turn at the intersection of Cambridge and N. Harvard. Waze consistently tries to make me turn right onto N. Harvard and then box around back to Cambridge to gain access to the ramp onto the Pike.

I have a user reported problem at the following permalink:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-71.12 ... TTTTTTTTFT

It seems pretty clear from the wiki that splitting Cambridge St to allow transfer from the westbound side to the eastbound side (there is a raised median) is not something to be considered lightly, and being totally new to Waze, I am not so caviler to begin to suggest this approach. I am, however, unclear what the appropriate resolution is and have been hard pressed to see something in the wiki that sorts this one out w/o complicating the current road mapping.

I am looking for guidance or feedback, etc that might help me think this one through so I can make a better informed request in the future.

Thanks,

There isn't an easy solution to this one as Waze doesn't support U-Turns unless the street is split (two one-way roads instead of one two-way road), BUT Cambridge St doesn't meet the requirements for it to be split... I'm going to pass it on to Area Manager harling and have him take a look at it...

I thought about connecting the ramp to the intersection and tweaking the turn restrictions, but when I did it, it just looked funny to me, so I didn't save the changes...

We can't go around splitting roads that shouldn't be split, just because they allow U-turns. And separating the lanes just for the intersection looks ugly--especially when the road is narrow and the turn lane has to be at least 15m in length. (I wonder how well a really narrow mapcat bowtie would work? I could see making it just wide enough to see that the "turn left" instruction is actually a U-turn, but I wonder if the audible alone would be misleading?)

Naturally, waiting for Waze to handle U-turns on two-way roads properly in WME and the routing engine (or to hire me to do the same) is out of the question. Let me give this some thought.
