left turn instructed instead of cloverleaf

Hello -

My map-editing skills have not advanced to the stage where i know how to address the following myself:

I was on this drive: https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=3&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT

And as I approached this selected junction ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=7&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT), the navigator voice told me to "turning a left on Powell Ave." I already know this intersection and drive, but had the navigation on for testing, so i was expecting it to tell me to keep right, or take ramp, or something less impossible than turning left down one level.

what needs to happen on the map to prevent the navigator from giving this kind of false instruction?

Thanks,
Barry

thank you. i'd wondered about the shallowness of those ramps, since their creation pre-dates my involvement here. I'll adjust per the junction style guide, as well as review the ramp naming link. i appreciate your thoughtful and speedy help!

ah well, a level 3 and level 4 editor have locked these various road segments. i'll post this in the unlock request forum.

Thank you. I amended the angles and ramp names per the style guide. Here's the permalink if you'd like to check and re-lock.

excellent. thank you. great learning opportunity here. in point of fact, the items you bring up were all set up by another user. i definitely wondered about the unnecessary double-point junction and the like when i was fixing the names and the ramp angles. i didn't want to work beyond my brief at first, but here's the new version if you'd like to check again at your convenience:

https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT

these pointers definitely give me extra confidence on proceeding and updating work by other users when necessary and warranted.

speaking of which, in the area a little further north (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat ... s=45574434) the highlighted segment doesn't conform to the ramp-naming policy or the junction angle, and based on the GPS data it may be slightly misplaced, leading to late voice commands from the client.

thanks again.

thanks for the welcome, the kind and constructive feedback. (that last oversight of mine was a lulu, but is now fixed) and thanks for the addiction warning. i definitely feel it coming on.

thanks yet again.

can i view connectivity flow in a zoom area to check my work? or is that something that was only doable in the old Cartouche?

(i just posted a topic in the newcomer's forum asking this among other things that i couldn't find answers to in my FAQ, Wiki and Forum browsing/searching).

There are a few issues that collaborated to give you the turn left instruction:

The ramps have no name - when this happens the next segment with a name along the route has that name propagated back in the directions therefore all the ramps will give a 'turn on Powell Ave' direction. Reference: Ramp naming

The ramp turn lanes are too shallow to generate a turn command, there will be 'stay' or 'exit' command. Reference: Junction Style Guide and Turn instructions

The turn restrictions are not set where the ramps intersect either of the other roads. Reference: Turn restrictions

There is no way that you should have been given a command to turn off the overpass onto Powell Ave (there is no junction between the roads at that location) but the lack of names on the ramp may be generating confusing directions.

There's a lot of good information in the wiki but its sometimes hard to find. At least read through the Junction Style Guide. That should help you understand a little better.

I unlocked all the ramp segments between Armory and Powell. You should be able to fix them now.

The only problem that I see is that northbound Powell Ave has a turn restriction where the turn lane begins that will prevent routing straight through. Other than that it looks pretty good. The TTS directions should at least make more sense.

Welcome to editing - beware the addiction. :D
