Why would Waze route wrong way on 1-way st.?

Now, this is weird! Why would Waze route this user traveling south on 25th st. to make a left on Forest St. which is one way in the wrong direction?
Note: I tested the route shown on the live map and it didn't happen.

Thanks in advance,

The "most user didn't take the suggested route" map problems seem to be able to be generated based on really old data. So its possible that the routes that are triggering the problem are from before the segment was edited to correctly indicate its one-way status. As the route is not happening on the live map, I'd just close the map problem.

Yeah.. I was going to close it after someone saw it, which is why it's in this forum and not the update one. I just wanted to discover a reason for it. It's a shame I made a minor update to some datum as it probably wiped out any record of an earlier update besides the creator. Thanks for the information though!

Not that (most) people would follow it, but I don't think that it is justified for any reason for Waze to produce routing that would be illegal. It's fine if the cops do it, but not Waze.

A restricted turn just has a penalty. If the penalty is less than going a different route, Waze will route you through the restricted turn. It will even route you down the wrong way on a one-way street if going another way is worse than the penalty applied for going the wrong way. This is in part because there are a number of incorrectly marked roads and turn restrictions and Waze wouldn't be able to get you anywhere in some locations that haven't yet been cleaned up. Also, there are times when a traffic backup gets to be so bad that police will route you where you aren't normally allowed and Waze is basically following the same practice.

I agree that Waze should never provide Illegal directions. However, the maps that we generate for Waze don't have all the necessary information to make that determination and not all map areas have even been edited.
For instance: there's a highway in the DC metro area that changes to HOV only during morning and evening commutes. Waze has no way of dealing with this so either 1) nobody gets routed on the highway at any time (unacceptable) or 2) non-HOV users are given a route using the highway during a time when it is illegal for them to do so (the way it is currently set).
Basically, the Waze maps don't have the capability or the accuracy to determine an illegal route and avoid it. Map editors are doing their best with the tools that they have.

In the case that started the thread, if the turn into the wrong end of a one-way street is enabled (called reverse connection or revcon by editors) then there is minimal or no penalty in the routing server for routing the wrong way down the one-way segment.

Bingo. Always a good idea. I even do this on previously edited split roads just to be sure.
