map errors

Post by FlyinBrian07
After seeing that 610 W was closed from 45 N, that I have driven different hours at night and used it as a route home.. the maps have constantly said it was not open to take 610 W from 45N.
It needs to be updated..??

Thank you Kevin for chiming in. I was hoping that a Houston expert would have more details. :D

I'm one of the Houston volunteers who has been responsible for the freeway closures at the Gulf Freeway and South Loop interchange. We realize that the current situation isn't ideal. Given our choices we feel that it is our best option.

If you'll look at TranStar's web site, you'll see that the contractor has scheduled nightly closures on the south loop from 9 PM to 5 AM until Dec 31. It's totally absurd but, even after speaking with the local TxDOT office, we can't get the actual closure schedule. They apparently don't know when the freeway is actually closing until the contractor has made the decision to close it.

Given what we know, we're been forced to decide between showing the freeway as closed even though we expect it to be open or show it as open knowing that some wazers will be caught in traffic when it is closed. We've, obviously, opted for showing it closed as commercial/interstate wazers will then detour around Houston using another freeway rather than risk the south loop.

While the closures are obviously annoying to the local wazers we're hoping that they can simply take advantage of the freeway when it is open and, the hopefully lighter traffic, on the rare nights when they are actually forced to detour off of the freeway.

Would you mind telling us whether the nightly closures are resulting in waze directing you to not use the south loop or does it tell you to detour off of the south loop when you reach the Gulf Fwy?

Thanks
