Texas Places

Postby txemt » Wed Aug 28, 2013 2:50 am

This is a list of what should and should not be landmarked in Texas. We're currently working on national guidelines, but this is a good place to start.

Please note that a landmark should NEVER be snapped to a street. With the latest release of WME, a landmark that is snapped to a street is nearly impossible to adjust. There are notations in each category that shows where the edge of the landmark should fall.

Transportation

Gas Station
Map at fence line/sidewalk line, make sure the landmark does not snap to roads. At this time, the "Name" property should be set to the brand of the gas station (i.e. "Mobil", not "Joe's Town Mobil & Repair"). Due to a rise in independent stations, several have adopted generic names, for these stations, use whatever shows prominently up on the signage.

EDIT: Please see this link for details on gas stations, and the gas station import of April, 2013. It's very important that this information is understood as the imported gas station landmarks are linked with the gas price listings, and must be handled carefully.

Toll booth
Not Mapped.

Terminal
Not used at this time. Not defined at this time. Some exceptions may be made if directions to airports are not directing people to the main terminal.

Airport
Mapped at the fence line/sidewalk line, include parking lots/terminals that are close to the airport in one landmark. Try to avoid crossing non-airport roads with the landmark. Do not label or mark taxiways, however runways can be mapped.

Train station
Mapped at the fence line/sidewalk line, including parking lot(s) in one landmark.

Bus Station / Bus Terminal
Mapped at the fence line/sidewalk line, including parking lot(s) in one landmark.

Sea Port
Not mapped.

Parking Lot
Listed below are the ONLY parking lots mapped with landmarks, there are several other landmarks that are mapped to cover parking lots associated with those venues.
Park & Ride Lots are mapped at the fence line/sidewalk line, make sure the landmark does not snap to roads. Name these as "Park & Ride" only - no specific names as it would get too long. These lots should also have unnamed Parking Lot Roads in accordance with the information in Road Types wiki page.
Pay Parking Lots (Private & Municipal) - Not mapped at this time, however, they are currently under discussion. Many of these are marked by the |P| icon that appears when nearing destination, which is data that comes from Foursquare.
Please note that individual parking lots at businesses are not mapped.

Thank you! This seems to be mostly common sense which makes it easier to remember and use. If I get a vote, I believe we should adopt this ASAP. The question now is, should we remove non-compliant usage?

And there are a couple of tunnels in Texas. One is the Addison Airport Toll tunnel and another is the Washburn Tunnel in Houston.

So, does this mean I can finally delete the Eastham and Ferguson Prison Farms up near Hunstville? They are so convoluted I didn't know what to do with them after I moved them from Germany to Texas.

Just to be sure -- I'm interpreting this as meaning go ahead and delete restaurants, hotels, stores, etc. (other than gas stations and major malls). Is that right?

And if they come back, do this? https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... om#p566496
