House Places

Post by tckma
What is the local guidance on people adding their houses as a place?

I see a lot of point places in residential areas that are, in effect, "Residence/House. Private Place," with no other information (like, say, the street or house number). I'm guessing Wazers are entering their houses as a new place (isn't that what the special "home" place is for in the app?).

I have been deleting these on the assumption that Waze will guide someone to the house correctly when provided an address, unless Google Maps has the pin in the wrong (heh) place.

Waze's guidance is here: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Places#What_ ... lic_places

I convert those points to house numbers if there is no picture. I make sure it is marked residential if it has a picture and leave it alone. I am not sure why people would want their house picture on the internet but...

If there is no address listed with a "private" "residential" place, then delete it, because there is no other way to find it in the app.

If there is no picture, that is okay. It still can be used to provide more accurate routing than other data sources (cough, google, cough).

As for privacy... I'm in the "meh" camp. Google has a picture of my house, why can't waze? Also its much harder to find a picture of a "residential" Place in waze than google SV. You basically have to go to the editor unless you are the one who actually took the photo.

A while ago Waze added the "add a picture of this place" option to the app. I know that whenever I approach my house, Waze implores me to add a picture. Perhaps people simply think it is not optional?

I don't want a picture of my house on the Internet, but honestly, it's on GMSV. Anyone who knows my last name can easily find it with a quick Google search for my name and town (which will bring up the transaction where I bought my house as the first result), and then go to GMSV to see it. Perhaps people know they can be found anyway and thus don't really care.
