Road Classifications Discussion - Input Needed

Post by AndyPoms
SaxTeacher3 and I are having a converstation about how to classify certain roads in the State of Connecticut (i.e. Freeway vs Major Highway vs Minor Highway vs Primary Road) over on the Wiki Discussion Page for the list of Roads I generated (and guessed at most classifications on).

If any CT Wazers wish to join in, please do. The link to the discussion is: https://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Tal ... ds_By_Type

The list that I originally generated of all Signed Roads in the State is available at: https://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Con ... ds_By_Type

We are NOT changing naming at this point - especially for Alt Names - since they aren't displayed anywhere in the app. The limited access roads are named State Rte ## right now, and it works for our purposes. We're working on a much bigger change on a national level to fix naming, and to get shields working properly (but according to Waze staff it seems to be much more difficult than we all think it is).

Also, all the Road Classification is completed (for now) using CT DOT Functional Classification Maps. Please do not change road types anywhere in the state.

The US DOT sets the Functional Classification Standards - that's what we used in CT, and that's what where we are moving to across the country. The issue is the translation between the two.

The original basemap import (US Tiger Info) only has 3 classifications of road, while FC has 7 (used to be 12, that were nearly identical with an urban/rural split). And Waze has 5 Road Types - you can see where the confusion comes from. Also, the ORIGINAL WAZE STAFF PROVIDED definitions were changed by a user - which has led to even more issues.

Happened upon this topic. A national solution will be tough. I think state-based naming solutions will be necessary with some sort of "equal to" stratification to other state's roads. Reviving old post.
I noticed that that state routes are named State Hwy (alternate name).
The state calls them State Route, should they be named as such in the WME?
