CDPs were created by the Census Bureau to carve up the nation into manageable chunks. They did try to have their slices assigned some local nomenclature, to make them recognizable, not as part of any community-building effort.
I see n reason to use CDPs in NJ or in any area (even if not the whole state) where the geography can be reasonably aligned to incorporated municipality names.

There are some CDPs that are more prominent as semi-independent communities, and addressing may use the CDP. Nevertheless, we aren't talking addressing now, we're talking map labels. I doubt there's a problem with eliminating labels for these places.
