Trinity St. (Newton) Reclassification

Postby Red_Gear » Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:18 pm

Recently, this route has been reclassified as a minor highway despite contravening the current FC given by the state DOT. The reasons for this are as follows:

  • In the summer of 2015, the town of Newton made Spring St. one-way from its junction with Union Pl. (ID 26404641) to its junction with Main St. (ID 26402623).
  • However, the town did not create another one-way street in the opposite direction, or upgrade an existing one (besides some repaving and a couple of new traffic signals).
  • This had the effect of adversely impacting routability to Andover, Sparta, and points east due to pruning.
  • In order to fix this, it was necessary to designate another minor highway that could serve to replace the eastbound direction of Spring St. without overburdening streets not intended to handle that volume of traffic.
  • After careful analysis of the local street grid, traffic flow, and the changes made to nearby streets in conjunction with the re-routing, a team consisting of myself, NJMedic2535, mrsmith66, unlimited1808, Dude495, PhantomSoul, krzycholub, and a few others, decided via Discord to use the route indicated above.
  • As this team includes a State Manager and an Assistant Regional Coordinator, please do not make any changes to this setup without consulting them first. The matter will be reviewed upon the next update of the state's FC map.
  • If you have any further comments, questions, or concerns, you may voice them here or in the state Discord channel.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
