The Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta, Sussex County, has been engaged in an ongoing dispute with the town over this parking lot which it owns. The lot has historically been a free public lot for patrons of surrounding businesses, but in 2016 the club decided it wanted to start charging non-members in order to pay for the cost of upkeep. However, the local planning board refused to allow this, and a legal battle has since erupted involving the club, the town, and the local businesses. There is a strong possibility that the LMCC could simply close off the lot outright to the public if they are unable to charge parking fees.
