Manhattan street numbers (instead of nicknames)

Post by larryd517
In Manhattan, many streets have nicknames that appear on signs (typically honoring people, etc.)
West 63rd Street's nickname is (believe it or not) Sesame Street. As cute as it is, I think announcing the street number as opposed to the nickname makes sense. It's easier if you're at 62nd street to know where 63rd is...it's harder if Waze announces 'make left on Sesame Street'.
Not sure of the other blocks, but a review of Manhattan streets to apply a uniform standard (numbers only) might make sense.

Hi All,
So In this case an exception was made because the city has officially renamed the street.
As it was explained by the mayor, "NYC did not just put up another sign"
There was much decision by the Waze Group and it was decided to rename the whole segment with in the Waze App.
So for now the name change is going to stay, but we do plan to review the decision in the future.

Thanks JD

Although "Sesame Street" appears to be an exception, I believe the general rule that is followed throughout most of NYC is that the official street name takes precedence, and honorary names are listed, if at all, only in the Alternate Names field.
