Level 3 San Diego, Genesee (road really should be split)

PLR Needs to be connected to genessee.

Waze consistently misroutes to businesses on the opposite side of the direction of travel on this road because of the median. It thinks you have arrived, or that taking genessee is the fastest route, when, in fact, you have not, and you should have taken one of the parallel streets so you can turn and be on the correct side of the street to enter the parking lot.

IMNSHO, Genessee should be split. It is a 6 lane divided road, and a major through-way.

I have attached the PLR you requested. Regarding dividing of Genessee Ave, we need to discuss if it meets the requirements in the Wiki:
https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Best_map_edi ... d_highways

Please post a reply supporting your recommendation to divide this roadway. That way other editors in the area can post support or opposition to the idea.

Thanks in Advance,

If there were many businesses actually fronting on Genesee along here, it would make sense to divide this stretch. However, because most of the business is off-street, and spread out, with access through only a few driveways, dividing would not have the desired effect, because people would still be routed to points on the street which don't make much sense.

We can accomplish proper routing here by adding the needed driveways and making sure that points exist, and are correctly named and placed (such as the church you correctly moved, zaphod :) )

The best editors Read the Wiki and read it often. Learn the proper way to handle URs. Don't draw another Place until you read this!

I'm not opposed, but I would argue there are other areas the move would be more justified than where you suggest.

I'm curious...which of these from the Wiki citeman linked to would be the reason?
It is an Interstate Highway (USA) or other Limited Access Highway using the "Freeway" road type,
GPS tracks show a clearly definable and continuous gap (blank area) between the colour-by-azimuth arrows at the 100m/500ft zoom level,
multiple houses or businesses with no off-street parking are located directly on the street but are not accessible from the opposite direction of travel due to lengthy median, obstruction, or traffic control signage, or
U-turns are required to properly make turns from public drivable road types that are blocked by a median.

zaphodb42, take a look at Tony's work in progress on House Numbers for how they work.

While the median is less than 5m wide, and U turns are allowed at the intersections, the issue is that Waze currently consistently misroutes to many businesses in this area. That would be solved by splitting from La Jolla VIllage Drive to at least Campus Pointe, and preferably the 5 N on-ramp.

I support that split.

Then we need to add the HNs (with proper access nodes), PLRs and the businesses. Right now, it's a mess, and we get issues with street numbers all the time (there's one open NOW for scripps hospital routing via street number instead of place, as an example).

BTW: While there are not a lot of businesses, there are a LOT of apartments, mostly for students, who often are visited by people unfamiliar with the area. Our current routing here gets people lost. The construction at the 5 doesn't help either.
