Pissed off L.A. Homeowners -- Waze is the Devil!

Post by Fredo-p
What the hell are you guys doing over in Cali? ;)

Let the battles begin!!!!!
http://m.tmz.com/2014/11/14/waze-app-ne ... iving-405/

The Waze app is destroying neighborhoods in Los Angeles ... so claim some very pissed off homeowners. There have been several neighborhood meetings in the last few weeks around the city because some posh neighborhoods have become as congested as the freeways around rush hour.Even if you don't live in L.A. you've probably heard about the legendary traffic jams on the 405. That freeway has caused thousands of motorists to rely on Waze to find shortcuts, and a glut of cars are ending up on the same side streets and it's become a nightmare for homeowners trying to leave. So the neighborhood meetings are all about torpedoing the Waze App, and they think they found a waze. Here's the plan ... since Waze is based on crowdsourcing, residents are uniting to report congestion in their area so cars are rerouted to other streets. It's starting to catch on ... with the possible end game that motorists will go back to where they came from ... the 405.

Closure & Restrictions Fanatic

Post by davielde
A handful of stationary reports won't make much of a difference--even if Waze does factor in reports from users who have always been stationary.

While we are considering false reports, put random restrictions or closures on the 405 as well as the streets near the freeway that are not generating these resident reports. Pick a neighborhood a day and just push everyone through it... In an odd paradox, that could actually slow down the average speeds for those neighborhoods over time--thereby helping the residents in the long run.

So they are going to take care of the problem themselves? Awesome.
Self-correcting issues are the best. Of course then they'll find their way to the forum and start whining about why they were banned, etc.

Going to be pretty hard to pull the average speeds down below the freeway speeds.

It's nothing new... when the Olympics were here in 1984, we got tired of hearing "The official xxxx of the 1984 Olympics"... but the running joke was "Interstate 405, the official parking lot of the 1984 Olympics"

But in reality, the only thing these people are going to do is get themselves auto-banned for over-reporting.

I suspect it is situations like this that gave rise to the automated abuse handling system... not our complaints about the app being "too chatty"... there's no way an automated system can quench the dozens of marginal reports that annoy each of us during a typical commute when we are on the road with hundreds of Wazers.

But the automated system does stop the guy who doesn't like people speeding through his street so he always reports a hidden cop, then refreshes the report when it drops off.
