Illinois Large Area Managers - LIVE

Post by hawkeygoal
Fellow Editors in the Great State of Illinois,

The State Managers for Illinois are happy to announce a Large Area Manager (LAM) program for the state. The goals of the program are to provide distributed coverage and support for editors, sharing and distributing of responsibilities, and a path for advancing into other editor roles.

The program leverages Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) districts, using them as areas of responsibility. This simplifies efforts to monitor state, county, local agencies, and respected media need by a LAM using established agency boundaries.

LAM and AM editable areas (EA) can have only four vertices. The EA for each IDOT district includes not only the district, but some adjacent territory in other districts, states or Waze regions. LAM responsibilities are within the counties of the IDOT district. Editing outside the area of responsibility, but within an EA, will need to be cooperative with other AMs, State Managers (SM), or Regional Coordinators, depending on the situation.

It is important to note that LAM is strictly an editing role, differentiating it from community roles such as SM. LAM responsibilities in Illinois will include, but are not be limited to:
  • Baseline Maintenance
    • Updating segments with unknown direction, clearly-incorrect names, and completing or correcting other map features.
    • Maintain proper Functional Classification for all segments using Illinois road types.
    • Ensure all segments are locked to minimum lock level appropriate for their segment type.
  • Change Management
    • UR/MP Handling: Perform frequent, regular User Report/Map Problem passes over their entire area in accordance with Great Lakes Region (GLR) standard.
    • Unlock/Update forum response: Monitor Unlock/Update forum for any posts in their districts, handle directly or escalate as needed.
    • Construction/Closures: Responsible for staying current on all major construction projects, ensuring real-time closures are entered into the system as needed.
  • Outreach
    • Editor Outreach: Be proactive in reaching out to new editors and encourage them to join the community. Stay in regular contact with editors working within their districts and help them improve/expand skillsets and knowledge.
    • District Outreach: Encouraged to coordinate with SMs establishing ongoing relationships with municipal, county, and IDOT representatives in their districts.
  • Incident Reponse: Lead the response effort for unplanned traffic disruptions in their districts (e.g., freeway closure due to major accident). Coordinate with SMs and others during more significant incidents.
The districts and editable areas expected to be part of the program can be viewed here.

You can submit your name into nomination using this form. Join up now!
