Incorrect naming of George Parks Highway
Hello Alaska Wazers,
I am curious about why the highway between Wasilla and Fairbanks has had the primary name applied as "George Parks Hwy". I understand that the highway was named in honor of the territorial governor. However, state and borough GIS sources, highway signs, and addresses all call it simply "Parks Highway", sometimes with a cardinal direction applied (within the Matsu borough).
With the name as it is, all addresses on the highway are incorrect, app directions don't reflect signs.
Therefore I propose renaming the entirety of the highway to simply Parks Hwy, including N S E W as appropriate in localities. I do not believe it is necessary to add "George Parks Hwy" as an alternate, although this could be done if others feel it is best.
Here's a DOT page describing the scenic byway honorary name - however, even in this they revert to simply Parks Highway in most references. http://www.dot.state.ak.us/stwdplng/sce ... arks.shtml
The DOT functional classification map calls it "Parks Highway"

The Matsu Borough GIS calls it E Parks Hwy at the beginning near palmer, switching to W at Lucile St in Wasilla, then S at mile 78 , and N past mile 132.

Fairbanks NSB calls it Parks Hwy.
