Update Assistance off I-85 in Durham

Post by Nimbus29
I came across this issue today while working on a few updates: https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=-78.90 ... TT&env=usa

The user's destination is the hotel at that location but to access the parking lot, you have to drive to the unnamed road on the other side. How should I go about resolving that issue?

I've had a similar question concerning a residential address. There are many addresses in my home Town that have a service road between the street the address is on and the entrance to the address, But no way to move the access point onto the service roads.

You mention only placing the stop point on a road with the same name as the address. Could the Address street name be added as an alternate name to a "SR xxxx" street to allow the stop point? Or does that name have to be the primary name?

OK, that is what I figured. But, figured asking was the best action since I can't really test that without save with alternate name.

To resolve the issue, removing the address as Riamus recommended and adding a parking lot to the location took care of the problem.

I also replied to the PM, but so others can see, here's my response...

That looks like it is being caused by the internal address. Google's address point is right on top of the hotel. Because the parking lot is mapped all of the way around the hotel, you should be routed to the correct location if using Google's address point. But I see that Waze has the address mapped. Since I can't edit this area, I don't see the stop point, but I'm guessing the stop point is right where Waze is routing you. Unfortunately, we cannot place an address stop point on a road other than the road with the correct name, so you can't place the stop point on the parking lot road or even the unnamed road at this time. That ability is coming, but it could be a long time before it is here.

What I would suggest trying is to remove the address for the hotel from Waze. Wait a couple of days so the map gets updated and see if it still routes you to the wrong place. If that fixes it, I'd leave it off for the time being and just mention in the NC forum that you had to remove the address because of bad routing so others know about it.

It doesn't work from the alternate street name field. And that can cause some problems in the future if you're putting an invalid name into the alternate name field anyhow. The address feature is still being worked on and that's part of why it isn't used except in certain situations. My hope is that when they complete the feature, it will allow us to place the stop points on any nearby street (they've said they'll add that) and that searches will work regardless of what is in the city field. Those are the two main things I think need to be accomplished before the internal addressing becomes the main address mechanism.

For the time being, we just really don't have any option to place the stop nodes anywhere except on the street that matches the address. For cases where a house is on a corner and the driveway is on the "wrong" road, I just place the stop point right at the intersection. It's not perfect, but it's better than taking someone too far. For other cases such as this one, removing the internal address and fixing the Google point will at least make it work for the time being. We just want to remember to put the address back when possible.

As a side note, keep in mind that I'm going off what I have seen posted by high level editors/champs. I also haven't tested this myself.
