District of Columbia Construction Projects

Post by syborg_sasquatch
This is a list of construction projects in the District of Columbia that are major enough to require changes to the map. The goal of this thread is to coordinate our edits in response to the changing road conditions on the ground especially since satellite imagery and GPS points may not reflect current conditions.

Due to the delay before edits to go live, projects and closures expected to last less than two weeks should be discussed here before editing the map.

Post here to report a construction project - I will add it to the list in order of completion date and acknowledge your post by marking it with "thanks". Also, please notify me of any incorrect or missing information, or upon the completion of a project.

The DDOT Project Dashboard is located here.

The list of active DC Water projects is located here with press releases located here.

Please be aware that a discussion is occurring in this thread in the Wiki Updates and Discussion Forum regarding how to label roads that are closed or under construction.

After construction is finished, First Street will be returned to two-way traffic with an added two-way cycle track along the east side of the street and on-street parking along the west side.

The second phase of the project is currently underway, and includes work on North Capitol Street, First Street and Irving Street.

The two are separate projects. I wasn't able to find any timing information on either one. The Linnean Avenue closure is due to a project that will "daylight" or un-bury a stream in parkland, and they need to dig up Linnean Avenue to install pipes, which will in turn require work on the water main. The Davenport Street closure involves creation of a sidewalk on a narrow, twisted road above a stream gully. It's probably safe to assume several months for each.

The Linnean Avenue project is primarily run by the DC Department of the Environment, with involvement by multiple other agencies, as well as the National Park Service. The latter's site for the project is http://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome ... ctID=36858.

I haven't been able to find a site for the Davenport Street project.

Do you have closure begin/end dates? Also, if available, a link to the project website would be helpful.
