Google Maps permanently changed?

I find today that I am stuck in the "new" Google Maps interface. Is there a way out of that hell? It's such a POS. I tried it repeatedly before full release and just could not find it usable.

Yes. I guess I forgot where that function was. Thank goodness!

Go to the bottom of the screen in Google Maps and click on the 'question mark bubble' and then click 'Return to classic Google Maps'.

Yes it will be a sad day if they ever take away the classic maps function. The desktop as well as the mobile app strips SO much functionality away that was previously there it is insane that they don't call it a beta version and still provide the old classic version.
