are you supposed to only report cop if they are sitting by the road with a radar scanning . cause i see alot of people reporting a cop that just drives by them or thats just driving on the road.

Mobile speed cameras which are only in place for hours or a day or two, usually in a van of some kind, should also be reported as Police.

I'm happy with a police report for the traffic stop. In my experience the police car on the shoulder with the lights flashing slows down the traffic as much as a police car with a radar gun in the median.

But how is anyone going to know what cop you are talking about? It doesn't let me know anything as when I get to the report, there is nothing there.

Personally I just see those sort of reports as map clutter.

I agree that it should not be used unless the police car is stopped.

Sometimes after the traffic stop, the cop just stays there and gets his radar gun back out!

Personally I just see those sort of reports when I find them as "police active in area beware!"

I have a Valentine One radar detector and if I see a cop driving and my radar goes off I think it should absolutely be reported. This let's everyone know the cop that just passed isn't just "passing".

EDIT: After understanding the way waze populates reports and why no moving hazard should ever be reported, I renege the above.

Valid points. I make sure to add a comment on the report - ie. "Traveling Southbound on I-195". Like any report you would have to click on the report to see details (unless you're using TTS) and the small green bubble that would attach to the report makes it more likely for someone to open it. Additionally, when navigating a longer route Waze will notify you of reports along the way, in the beginning of the trip. Something to the effect of "Object on Road in 20 min." Seeing that there is a police officer along the route, especially if you know that he is traveling in your direction, is enough to make you be on the lookout. Granted, there is a good chance he wont be there by the time you reach that location (since he already pulled someone over  ) but better safe than sorry.

Re Map clutter this is a single report that will only last a short period of time. Its not reporting potholes every 5 ft. until Waze cuts you off.

Exactly! It says "Hey stop Wazing and scan the roads". Once all is clear, go right back to your phone and Waze away. If I helped one driver from being stopped for every 100 reports I am a happy man. :D

OK so just to revisit this, of late, I have been seeing an abnormal amount of wazers reporting police who clearly are not a threat, completely abusing this option and like CBenson pointed out cluttering the map.

I therefore rescind my previous opinion on this matter.
