What is the role of CM now and are there any duties that go along with it?
I asked for this already a while ago, and there has been some discussion, and the creation of the RC page. Perhaps we should continue that discussion, and merge it to a new thread in the wiki forum for a new page titled Ranks Roles and Responsibilities.
  • It would include the hierarchy of all the ranks and roles, their relationships to each other, and where they unrelated.
  • It would distinguish which are tied to editing, the community, or both, and which are different based on region.
  • It would have to have an overview of what "Self Managed" means, and how that relates to promotions.
  • For simple ranks and roles, the prerequisite criteria, and objectives/responsibilities could be listed here. For those more complex, or which already have their own page(s) it would be a brief summary and a link to the relevant article(s).
  • We could glean information for some of these from various wiki pages, and add to it with information which was authored as part of the mentoring program (suggested/required skills for ranks), or discussed at various meet-ups and hangouts between the champs (criteria to be CM).
  • It should also list the process for requesting/achieving any of these ranks or roles.
This would be a large undertaking which would require collaboration from various champs. I do believe it would be very helpful to many editors, and would alleviate a lot of confusion between all the different ranking systems, and roles available (Client, Editor rank, roles, and even road levels and lock rank which can be confused as well).

TL:DR I think we need one page to reference which would sort out any and all confusion related to anything in the realm of Ranks, Roles, Levels, Responsibilities, and how to achieve them.

As the SM is a direct assistant role to the RC, and working in close relation with the RC(s), it will most always be a position nominated by the RC after experience with an editor. Other SMs, and CMs, can of course make recommendations to editors on ways to improve, and to RCs on potential good candidates for the SM position.

How could I have forgotten the most important thing about map editing.....They are always watching. 8-)

I'll look over the wiki to ensure it is cleared stated that efforts in both editing and community are always noticed and selection to SM is by nomination. If one feels they meet the criteria and have not been contacted, they can contact their local Champ/CM about becoming an SM.

What about the Mentor Program? Should that also be taken into account in regards to becoming an SM?
Being in the mentor program is a plus, but it is a choice, and not required.

Should the US specific SM list be moved to a separate page in order to make this a general catch-all page for any country that has SMs? I am thinking it might be better to have a general overview of what the SM role encompasses for all countries and then have links at the bottom for things specific to each country, such as who to contact (RC/Champ), who the current SMs are, etc.
Yes.
This would be in line with work being done under the new Wiki Masters program. The USA page could be a subpage, so [[State_Manager/USA]]

I showed the State Manager signature icon that I'm using below to my RC (Jemay) and asked if I should create a set to cover every state. He loved the idea, and I'm working on that project now.

What I'd like to do when they're all completed is to upload them to the Wiki and add a table to the State Manager page with those icons. This way, we've got a standard icon to use in forum signatures (like the edit count shields and rank cones, etc., that are elsewhere in the Wiki) for those who want to put them in their signatures.

Anyone have any objections to my putting them on the page?

Ok, yea, that makes perfect sense. That's why I'm glad I thought of it! :D

Thanks. ;)

That's the plan. :D

Wait, what? Sub page? You really think that's needed when we'll have a nice neat table there?

Added State Manager to the Forum Signature Banner page. Created sub-page called State Manger Icons, located at Forum_Signature_Banners/State_Manager_Icon.

Also, SuperDave1426, I have already created a table that is 50x3. This should help make it quicker to build the table, unless you already have one. If you do, go ahead and kill mine.
Ok, I guess a sub-page it is. However, um... 50x3? There's only 50 states. :D I planned on a 5x10 to allow room for the icons, etc., and accommodate everything. So yea, when I've finished creating all the icons, I'll probably kill your table in favor of another one. ;)

On the main banner page, I don't see any stat manager icon or link to the page that will hold the individual state icons - have they been added yet?
