One minor edit to consider: In step 10 of how to add a temporary closure it says the end date can not be more than 180 days after the start date. However, the change to 6 calendar months (183 days) is noted further down in the minutiae section. These sections should be made consistent.
Fixed and some other minor cleanup. I'm just waiting for some consensus before changing the page.

If no one objects, since the information in this page is coming up in questions already in the forum, I'd like to make the changes today. This has been reviewed by many champs off-forum, and can be updated if necessary after it is live as well.

The updates are live on the Road closures page.

I have not yet moved the page to [[Temporary closures]], I would like to that too soon unless anyone objects.

A future edit is to include the [[/Overview list]] transcluded into this page, into the other pages listed. This would give a user who landed on any of these pages a list of options to evaluate and links to the relevant pages.

We should add a note to this effect somewhere on the page. If a two way road has been permanently changed to one way road, the segments should be edited to reflect that using [[link to reference on setting|proper directionally and turn restrictions]]. Do NOT use Temporary Closures in situation.

Comments, questions, support?

This came up in chat, and I was asked to add it. I can ask if this has been a larger issue or not.

This update has been live for a bit, and Waze staff have made some changes to the layout. I've been working closely with Waze staff on redesign of this page, with more content. Some of this new content is being supplied directly by Waze as well. The latest draft of this page is now in a user page here.

My intention is to publish these changes very soon, I feel we are close to completion. So I wanted to give everyone a heads up.

As you can see from the draft page, I would also like to rename (move) this page to a new title Real time closures which is how Waze internally refers to these types of closures. The name change was suggested by Waze Staff.

With recent changes it should not take 4-6 weeks to get a closure in, you can ask in wme chat for help. I will quote what is already in the wiki and a direct request from staff.
Partial restrictions (AKA Scheduled or Time-Based Restrictions) - Used when turns or roadways are restricted at certain times of day, days of the week, vehicle types, etc. These have the ability to only restrict during a specific date range, but should NOT be used in place of Mega Traffic Events or Real-Time Road Closures.

If a road is closed with a Real Time Closure, there is no need to duplicate the Closure with an additional Partial Restriction (AKA Time-Based Restriction) for traveling across the segment, or change any turn restrictions. (This also helps preserve the map, as soon as the Temporary Closure expires, or is cancelled, the map will route as it's supposed to.)

CBenson wrote:I agree, maybe we need to discuss this elsewhere, but we should be able to get closures on the map quickly and thus completely move away from using TBRs for any closures.

With regard to the page, I would remove the sentence "This is the preferred method for closing roads due to its safety and visibility to Wazers" from "The WME Closure feature" section as it is repeated from the "How to submit a Real time closure" section.
The sentence is there twice because the top of the page is an overview of many tools used to control traffic flow. While lower sections are the more detailed information about specific tools.

What is meant is that adding an RTC to a segment leaves no lasting effect. The history for the segment remains intact, the acquired speed data, the turn restrictions, road type, etc, all remain untouched. Once the closure is removed routing is restored immediately, and not have to wait for a tile update. Also if placed inappropriately on an open road, a few minutes of cars driving through the closure will inactivate it and remove it from livemap/client.

All in all, even if abused, it causes much less damage/ill effects on wazers than other tools. Therefore it is a better choice, especially for users who mean well and are not trying to abuse it, but may make a mistake.
