[PAGE UPDATE] Map Protection
I am proposing a small update to this page https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Map_protection
I noticed this paragraph:
Please note that the thresholds are high. It is unlikely to reach them when editing manually without using scripts.
This is true regarding some forms of editing, but it is definitely false regarding speed limit updates. I'll say conservatively that if more than 20 segments have their speed limit changed in a save, there's a good chance that the editor will be throttled. Some report a change of 15 segments to trigger a throttle. It has happened to me, and at least a dozen other editors have posted the same info on the edit throttling thread here: viewtopic.php?t=178006
So I propose changing the paragraph that I quoted to read:
"Please note that the thresholds are high. It is unlikely to reach them when editing manually without using scripts, except in the case of speed limits. Saving changes to speed limits on more than 20 segments at a time may result in throttling, although the mechanism may be changed at any time, so this is just an estimate."
It may seem weird to single out speed limits in the wiki, but this issue is demoralizing editors, and more accurate information may be helpful for those who are trying to get speed limits live in their area and are unaware that their edits often do not count.
There are also a few grammatical changes that I would like to make to the page, and where it says "points" to describe edit counts, I would like to change that to "edit counts" so as to disambiguate the term from user points that you earn for driving in Waze, reporting or making edits.
If anyone has more information on this, comments or questions, I'd be happy to discuss [emoji4]
