System detected type problems

Postby GigioGigos » Wed Aug 10, 2016 3:09 pm

Hi, I found a problem in the map with the description: Parking Lot should be input as area polygon

I was looking in the wiki (https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Map_Problems_in_Waze_Map_Editor) and it says that if you find a problem not listed you should write a post here, so that's what this post this if I didn't do anything wrong.

I just found this: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Edits_to_avoid_(USA)#Misuse_of_the_Parking-Lot_Area_Place

Maybe that means that the wiki in first place is ok.

The problem you mention is a new one created in the past month, so it is not yet listed in the wiki. It is part of an overhaul of the whole parking lot structure, and being rolled out in pieces. There is some wiki guidance being drafted for this new design, but not completed yet since the rollout isn't over yet. Thanks for pointing this out, that page will nee to be updated to include this new problem type once we have some established guidance on how to resolve it.

Once we're on the topic we also need to put in some information for another new problem type; Area place target too far from driveable roads.

[PAGE UPDATE] System detected type problems

Postby PesachZ » Tue Aug 16, 2016 1:20 pm

I drafted these two sections to address these 2 MPs for the USA wiki. If the global community approves, they can be added to the global page.

Thanks for these additions.

For "Suggested route frequently ignored" and "Road type mismatch" there are no situations where "Not Identified" would be used?

How often does the system generate MPs? I've come across areas where two road junctions should be connected (at a 4-way intersection) but were not and were about 50' apart. Users created URs saying that the roads should be connected but weren't, which is how I found them. There were lots of GPS traces going across the gaps and the last edits were years ago, so Missing junction should have been generated. I've since fixed them all, but I was curious why MP's were never generated. I don't think any other editors would have marked an MP as "Not Identified" at these locations.

Here is a draft to address goes to report types, and when a not identified response may be appropriate.
Suggested route frequently ignored

Waze has calculated that most users did not follow the suggested route. The number in the green circle shows how many drives were taken along that route. Look for missing connections or incorrect turn restrictions which may cause Waze to not choose the route that most users actually took. If you find such a problem, fix it, and mark it Solved. If there are no missing connections or incorrect turn restrictions, then either leave it open for another editor to review, or mark it Not Identified.

Road type mismatch

The route goes through some unnavigable roads such as railroad or walking trail. Verify that the road type is actually correct. Under no circumstances should there be a junction between non-drivable segment types like walking trails, runway/taxiway, etc., and other standard drivable segments, except as specially outlined in the wiki (Railroads), or at the discretion of SM+ editors (Walking Trail). If the road type is not correct, fix it, and mark the problem Solved. If the road type is correct, and the junctions are allowed, mark it as Not Identified.

Again if there is Consensus These can be requested for moderator approval to be added to the global page.

Hi PesachZ, these paragraphs all look like great content. I would like to make a large number of very small punctuation and grammatical changes to the draft Wazeopedia page. I want to check with you first, though, so as not to screw anything up or violate any editing protocols. Alternatively, I could send you a Word doc with the changes highlighted or something, if you would like to see them first. Please tell me how to proceed.

This is the thread for the global wiki. The "draft you speak of is presumably the USA Wazeopedia version. There is a separate forum and threads for the USA Wazeopedia. I'd be happy to work out the details with you there. The easiest way to make the suggestions would be to create a full copy of the page in your userspace (here), and then make the changes in you draft. When you are done we can easily compare it to the published version, to highlight the updates, and review them.

It seems we should move forward with adding these to the wiki. There has not been any negative response since it was posted. It seems like there is no debate and we all agree. :D
