I propose pulling the section on loops out from below "dead end", and including roundabout with the rest of the loops, many use somewhat simpler language.

The section would look like this:

Well yes. That is a good pointl.

The only thing the junction style guide says about roundabouts is to go read about them on the roundabout page anyway. How about
Roundabouts are technically loops. But they should never be used where other types of loops are required because they create special navigation instructions in the waze app. Please see the [[Roundabouts]] page for a full discussion of this special type of junction.

along those lines:

It may be tempting to use the roundabout feature to create a loop shape. Do not do this unless the loop is a genuine roundabout/traffic circle, as defined on the [[Roundabout]] page. Roundabouts give special routing instructions, and must not be used for other purposes.

Of course, all the technical reference, "hard" guidance, and local guidance is simply grist for producing good instructional materials at various levels of complexity so editors more easily can learn how to improve their skills :)

My aim with this proposed edit is to improve organization and better prepare the page to better serve as a reference for instructional materials.

Any objection to the proposed change?

Any objection to replacing the relevent sections of the current page with the slightly-reorganized and slightly simplified content here?

The change was most recently discussed here:

This particular rewrite was not meant to change the meaning of any of the material, only to make it easier to understand.

I would like to make this modest improvement to the current material, and then continue the discussion on further ways to improve it, if that is OK.

Removing the driveway recommendation might be another modest change.
Removing the guidance to eliminate two segment loops in order to avoid the same end points drivable segments problem seems like a more significant change. That discussion could go on for a long time.

In the meantime, I would like the current advice to be better organized and easier to understand.

As there were no objections to the reorganization of the material on loops and roundabouts, I have made the change referenced above

Do we need to do something about the guidance to add a driveway to "cover for" any "extra" nodes in a loop?
1) remove all mention of it (and with it the mention of educating editors as an alternative)
2) add more words to clarify that it must be a "good" driveway, and that, really, obscuring the purpose of the node by hiding it under a driveway won't necessarily protect it.
3) leave the wording exactly the way it is.

I removed the advice to add a driveway. i left in the advice to educate new editors.
