Ah, changes already implemented. Great.

I did see some typos and confusing grammar in a few other paragraphs of the page, so I can touch those up later today when I get a moment.

Agreed. The page has been reviewed many times and is very well put together. I removed the construction box and put the link to this forum on the Talk page for quick reference.

That makes me think it might be good to have a template like {{PrivateMessage}} called {{ForumLink}}. It would be a message box designed to be placed at the bottom of a page that is directly linked to a discussion page already. It would simplify getting users with questions or concerns into the right place in the forum.

I am open to either one.

The idea of putting it at the bottom of the main page is that most users don't ever think about the talk page. This gives them a visual indicator of where they can go. Also the forums are MUCH more monitored by the Waze editing community than talk pages. Frankly talk pages are tough to manage when people comment on them because there is no automated flagging system that you can see a new comment was added. The forums do that very well already.

We have a discussion on the {{ForumLink}} template over in this thread if anyone would like to give their feedback and perspective.

I moved qwalette's post on ForumLink to the ForumLink discussion.

To expand on my thought. I think there should be something like that in there just not the absolute "Do Not".
I completely agree with you... I was rushed when I wrote this. My thought was more like this:

"Be careful offering advice outside of your local area. Regional and state differences exists (show a link or two to the state resources or forums) and your advice may be inaccurate in that area. Outdated areal images may be deceiving if locals are editing new construction areas. Providing advice on simple or common topics should be fine."
Should areal be spelt as aerial?

It should also have information on visible/invisible. You are unable to send messages while invisible.

You can click on another users name in the right panel to jump to their location.
(There are some scripts I believe which interact somehow with the location jumping, though I do not use any and am not familiar.

It is a useful tool for informal mentoring, getting advice on a situation, and quick unlocks.

There could be a note that a lot of editors leave chat open while doing other things, so if you don't get response it doesn't mean you are being ignored. It may be no one saw your message.

A short section on the known issues (and solutions) such as messages being doubled, tripled or more (I think the record is 8x), which can sometimes be caused by having multiple instance of WME running, and corrected by closing all other instances and refreshing WME.

I don't know how the chat rooms are organized in the US (is there one room per state or just one for the whole US?), but over here there are often cases, in my case between the rooms 'Germany' and 'Austria', where people's message double and the standard suggestion 'close all WME instances except one' doesn't help, because there are no multiple WME instances, but the problem persists.
The US does have only one chat room for the entire country.

The suggestion to 'close all WME instances except one' and then refresh the last remaining window will not always work. It was suggested for the specific case caused by having multiple windows open, and has been proven to work in a lot of cases though. If you have any other suggestions that work occasionally, let's add them to the list.

Just found this older thread. Maybe these threads should be merged.

Since I don't use chat, I am not comfortable driving this page, but I am happy to provide Wiki editor feedback if someone wants to give it a shot.
Are you suggesting that we start fleshing it out on the wiki page directly, or still post draft section text and images here first?
