IMO, the scoreboard is a nice extra, but is relatively unimportant in the scheme of things. What I care about is a dependable app that lets me easily communicate my route and eta via text message. I use that feature nearly every day.

This is something I observed when I switched from 3.8.0 to 3.8.1.

In 3.8.0 when I go to the "find friends from contacts" menu, I have a full list of my contacts (~400 entries or so).

Now, with 3.8.1 the list contains only ~7 entries. At first glance these contacts are some entries in my SIM, BUT not all of them are there though. None of my original contacts are on the list now. This also means, that my already established friends' nicknames do not map to their names in my phonebook, and I lost contact photos. This does not fix itself after a few hours, that I've given to it to sync somewhere in the background whenever it wants to.
I don't even get that.
I'll manually search for a name that is in my contacts and it comes up blank.

It appears now that the only way to manually add a friend is from Facebook (I don't do Facebook), or apparently there is some way to add someone in your immediate area... as my wife was able to "friend" me and likewise I her... but I can't even search by a Wazer's username to send a friend request, and friends on the forum here do not appear in the mobile app.

For now, the add-friends function is 100% broken for those not on Facebook.

Mentioned in another thread, but drive sharing is now a complete pain.
I don't do Facebook.
I can't figure out how to manually add friends on Waze... somehow my wife stumbled across friending me through locating my icon on the map, but the lookup feature does nothing.

But when I want to share a drive, I can either select "More" or tap her icon.
If I tap her icon, she gets the link in Waze, but at that point, I lose the "More" options once the drive is being shared.
I used to send her the Waze share as well as a text message. If I'd like to share the drive with multiple people who are not friends on Waze, I'm hosed... it's impossible.

And Bluetooth is seriously messed up.
I have the app configured to use the phone's speaker.
Works great.

When I get a phone call, the radio automatically kicks over to Bluetooth for the call.
Invariably, EVERY time I take a call, Waze decides that it is time to announce 5 stalled vehicles on the shoulder, 4 police traps, and my next series of turns.
This comes over the BT, which interrupts the call.

When I tell Waze I want it to use the phone's speaker, that means that I do not want it using BT at any time... not ONLY when the radio is not in BT Audio mode.

I have encountered the reconnection issue as well... to the point that it was not even loading map tiles (on my morning commute).

I'm getting it from time to time.
Not a completely blank map, just missing tiles here and there.
They are normally there by the time I get to the edge of the tile.

This was taken July 30, so it is not anything new.

Not unrelated...

Yesterday wife and I were on I-5 approaching 118.
There were a BUNCH of police and accident reports on both roads.
Not a cop or accident in sight, wife brought up the details and these were reported by Waze 8 hours earlier.

I'd also like to know where Waze gets its information for reporting police. I've encountered a number of police alerts, reported by Waze within the last 15 minutes... no cop.
Is this coming from social media? I was at a traffic engineering luncheon a little over a year ago and one of the presenters was talking about accessing social media and scanning for key words in tweets such as "Stuck" or "Traffic" or highway names, and analyzing messages that trigger the "interest" to determine location and conditions.

I don't recall what company the presenter was with, his presentation was mostly visions for the future of transportation including self-driving vehicles, but the portion of the presentation that talked about the social media aspects used Waze character icons.

TTS issue that I've sworn I've heard frequently, and now I'm starting to see UR's relating a similar issue.

When Waze is giving the advance left turn alert (half mile, 900ft, etc...) it REALLY sounds like Samantha is saying "right" instead of "left"

At the intersection, she is saying left, but the enunciation seems just a bit off, and given the low volume of the phone's speaker (too low to hear at highway speeds in my Tacoma even with the windows up), it is easy to see how it could be construed as "right"

I've asked the reporters for feedback letting me know if the directed path is incorrect or if it is only a TTS instruction error (no turns on the GPS/Route on the map with the URs) but so far no response.
I really suspect that they are hearing what I'm hearing.

Teams are generally localized, normally TV station "Traffic Watch" type things... In Los Angeles, the only team available is ABC Channel 7.

Around the time of World cup, and likely the Olympics and other global events, you will be able to join the "team" that represents your favorite country.

+1

The hazard reports are just that. Hazard reports.
I sent a "not there" on no less than 10 "Vehicle stopped on shoulder" alerts on the way home from work today because, well, they were not there... no cars on the shouder within 1/2 mile of the location of the alert pin.

Likewise for police. Most police alerts I see there is nobody there. When I seem to be "following" a string of reports, it is obviously someone reporting the cop just ahead of them, or the motorcycle cops that just passed them.
No. It takes as much as 4 minutes for reports to propagate to the clients. In that time, the moving cop is 5 miles away from where you reported him.

Excessive reporting can result in an automatic flagging and being blocked from being able to report, and being locked out of the scoreboard.
