Routing insisting on certain routes that are not optimal

I use Waze every day from and to work.

Very often, it is very insistent to take a major highway which I know will cause me delays.

Scenario:

- I request the route to get home. Waze says take highway1, ETA 1:30 mins
- I ignore the instructions and take the other turn towards highway2.
- It recalculates and tells me to make another turn towards highway1, ETA 1:33 mins
- I ignore the instructions and make the turn towards highway2.
- It recalculates and now gives me instructions towards highway2.
- The new ETA is suddenly less than the one of the originally proposed route, e.g. ETA 1:20 mins

Why wouldn't it tell me to go home via highway2 in the first place?

Disclosure, highway1 is 69.5 miles, highway2 is 72 miles.

It might be that there is a map issue or a temporary restriction in the direction of your better route which forces waze to look for a different route.

Around the point where waze suddenly jumps to the better route is where the problem might be or a point where you suddenly see a sudden drop in ETA.
