USB results in constant flickering

My car has a navigation/media console. If I plug my phone into the USB connector, Waze will then flicker constantly, like it's repeatedly clearing and redrawing the screen. This happens whether I'm using the USB port (i.e. playing files from my phone) or not, but it doesn't happen if the USB is plugged into a simple charger in the lighter socket. Does everyone/anyone else have this problem?

I have the same issue, however it only started happening on the new version of Waze. This is super annoying.

Usb connections in some cars are not meant for charging a phone, only for getting access to the music stored on the phone or for some other app access. This means they don't have a good powersource which might interfer with the phone while it needs a lot of power and it thinks it's on a powersource.

A colleague of mine saw his car navigation failing after a few minutes (slower and slower position updates) after he connected a powerhungry device to the usb media connector of his car. It took a while but in the end the car manufacturer concluded that he shouldn't use that usb connector for charging devices.
