Wow, you rock, PesachZ! Thank you so much! :-)

Well... I did start with a GARMIN theme but then may have tweaked it a little. Not sure - just did the basics and then took it from there.

...So it may not be EXACTLY a GARMIN theme, but it's pretty close... "Garminesque." :)

Changing the color scheme does not require jailbreaking or rooting your phone. It's actually easier than you think. You can do it right on your Android phone and don't even need a computer. iPhone owners - not sure, but I'm sure there's something similar.

To change the scheme, simply go into your Waze settings and change it. There's many to choose from.

If you want one of the custom ones that we've created (I'm very partial to the "Garminesque" that I made and would not be interested in Waze without it), download an app called "File Manager" from the Play Store on your Android-based phone. It's free.

Open that app and go into your phone and find a file called "waze." Inside waze/skins/default/day/04 you will find a file called "schema." Open that file as text and copy/paste the code above over everything in that file. Save the file as you close out.

I also have a custom night scheme which should be copied/pasted over waze/skins/default/night/schema in the same manner.

When you're done, open Waze and go into your settings and select the "Twilight" scheme. I also like to set Waze to automatically switch between day and night themes.

That's it. If you can copy/paste, you can have a custom color scheme.

I have made some changes to my "Garminesque" color scheme. Mods, how do I update my wiki page to reflect the changes? Alternatively, how do I add color schemes to my profile?

Ah, gotcha. Thanks a million. It was a "not logged in" issue. No edit tab.

Problem solved. :-)

Thanks again!

Thanks spookyx!

I did a few more tweaks to Garminesque and uploaded the new source code to my Wiki page at https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/User:DeepSouthDiver . Both the night and day versions of the Garminesque theme have changed, so be sure to use the latest code.

The latest tweaks were:

1. Lightening the shade of the background areas like parking lots, government installations and gas stations. This improves readability when there is a "parking lot road" through one of these shaded areas.

2. Changed the background color of islands to match background color of mainland (there were some color matching issues - now resolved).

3. Dirt roads, 4x4 trails and walking trails now show up as a dirty tan color (vs. paved roads showing up an "asphalt" color), making it immediately obvious to the driver what's paved and what isn't. This can be very useful in rural areas.

Enjoy!

One thing I'm seeing as a consistent theme between all of our custom schemas is a better contrast between normal streets and background colors. It seems we've all chosen for streets to be grayish of some shade or another... And dirt roads to be brown or tan.

I prefer not to see city borders (I don't see how that affects navigation), and am not so hot on all the pastels in the display... But we clearly agree on a lot of other things.

Very nicely done!

I think that Waze should include some of these in their original color theme offerings so others can enjoy. As it is, Wazers basically have two options: A horrid "Map Editor's Theme" or a weak-looking, pastel-colored theme of one flavor or another. Waze should include these other offerings as well so people don't have to hack a decent appearance.

I still can't believe you need to root Android to get a screen capture. Not user friendly at all.
Not with the newer ones you don't
