If did find some notes by shalafi from a post in May 2010 in a text file I had:
shalafi wrote:some properties also have an alpha value specified (Cities #xxxxxx00, changing the alpha to #xxxxxxff will show the City area)
So, one could deduce that 00=off and ff=on ...

However in the new day colour scheme for the v3.5 beta we have the following value:

Code: Select all

Labels.BgColor: #faf8f5dd
And Map editors had:

Code: Select all

Labels.BgColor: #ffffffbf
Does the Labels.BgColor get used in the v3.x client?

AlanOfTheBerg wrote:Yeah, the categories of landmarks the client can render differently is small. We don't really know how they are categorized on the server side when the data is sent to the app.
I was playing in the week by using a plain scheme like my night time one and changing some parameters to bright colours to see which of the road types and landmarks are actually used:

No surprises regarding the road types they all map to what you'd expect apart from Streets, Parking Lot Roads, Private Roads & Service Road Types all map to "street.class". The only one I couldn't figure out was the "exit.class" anyone know what it's used for?

For landmarks most don't seem to be used, the ones that are used are:
1. "Cities.Class" = City polygons from WME. Even though we have had three updates on ROTW since I completely changed some city names this has not updated in the client, most likely because the city polygons layer seems to be broken and has not updated in almost 2 months. Support keep ignoring me on this ...
2. "Parks.Class" = Parks, Woodland & Forest Landmarks, basically everything that is green.
3. "Sea.Class" = Water Feature Landmarks, basically everything that is blue (ie water)
4. "Stations.Class" = Everything else ...
5. The remaining landmark classes don't seem to do anything unless someone knows different.

The blue and green landmarks are much much dimmer when your driving in the dark with auto brightness on (this took quite a few tries to get right). The red routing colour matches the dials in my Audi (yes I have OCD)! :D

I've been working on some UK specific colour schemes for a while now as the change for Major Highways to PRN finally means we can (almost) match a scheme for the majority of mapping services, and they are now ready for a wider release.

OS OpenData
Based on the Ordnance Survey colours used in their OpenData online maps, this is a bold, high contrast colour scheme designed to be accessible to colour-blind (CVD) users. Railways and runways are also shown on the map.

Classic Google Maps
Based on the maps colour scheme that Google stopped using in the UK in 2013. In contrast to the OS OpenData colour scheme this is a flat, subtle colour scheme. Railways and runways are also shown on the map.

Anyway, the follow the links above or view the theme pages on see them the wiki colour schemes page examples.

On the subject of the examples table of the wiki, it is very hard to read due to the narrow width of the Waze wiki (how many years have we been asking for it to be improved?). Since most schemes have their own page I think we should limit the table to one screenshot and a pracy of the description to make it more user friendly (as I have done). If users really want to see a detailed description of every colour they can read it there.

Grab a free copy of iMazing AKA DiskAid (Tweet or Facebook like required) if you don't have it. I've been using this for loading custom Waze schema for years. :D

The correct path is:

/Waze/Documents/skins/default/day/5/ and the 'schema' file goes in the numbered folder.

If you use iMazing to place the schema files on your phone you can do it via wifi so no need to even hook the phone up, you can do it with the phone in your pocket. :D

It has been marked as Obsolete as the Waze app content is being moved from Wiki to Waze Help.

I have highlighted that there is more than just how to switch colour schemes on this page in the GC forums.

Not working for me but I tried the PC version (3.7.0.0) I'll try the mac version later.

If not I need to downgrade pronto before apple stop signing iOS 8.2.
