World Wide server - broken routes/roads

Post by
Hello all,

We're looking for test cases from users in World Wide servers.

Last week we have encountered many cases of broken routes and broken roads on the map of the client.
We did upload a fix to this issue and we would like to get feedback from you.

In any case you still encounter this problem, we would appreciate if you'll post here the exact location (lat/lon or permalink) of the places which you still encounter this issue.
Screenshots will also be appreciated.

Please refresh the maps in your client before you try to reproduce this bug.

Thanks in advance!

Ori

Maybe a dumb question: did you try forcing the client to update the new maps?

Ori, I've seen a couple of places with missing streets (multiple connected segments) or broken segments. Since the later announcement (2 weeks ago) abut the fix, the missing streets (I was aware of) reappeared, but none of the broken segments were corrected - some of them were even adjacent to the missing streets.

Broken ("exploded") segments I'm aware of:

PS: Do you try first to find the reason, why did it happen, or is the server pipeline still not able to generate the whole new map from scratch? ;)

I suppose this is just an example of not updating the map prior to looking for broken segments.

The navigation request actually did the refresh for you. (But yes, surprising for the user.)

In 'Map tiles in the International server' on Nov 15, Shirli wrote:...you might run into a bug: some roads might appear as missing from the client (even though they appear correctly in the livemap and in the map editor).

We are verifying currently how many tiles were affected and working on fixing it ASAP.
In 'Mapdate December 5', Shirli wrote:As you know there's a major backlog and the map is updated until edits from November 9.

The reason for this backlog is actually related to the problem reported previously concerning roads appearing corrupted / missing in the client. It then took us a while to locate the problem and fix it before we could start the new tiles builder process. Due to this delay we had to run the process over a huge amount of changes and that requires a lot of processing time.

The situation now is that the process should be ending in 4-5 days and when it's done, the map tiles will be updated until edits from November 28.
Today we've got fresh new maps, edited up to Nov 28. Many thanks!

But, unfortunately, none of the broken roads I was aware of got repaired.
May I assume it still being a global problem? Or just a few of them slipped through?

rlpl wrote:Now my dumb question: has anybody viewed this area in your clients? There could be a problem in my device. The links include the coordinates, some of these areas are near the Czech Republic.
No problem with your device. I've checked the Wroclawska/Orlen near Zabkowice-Slaskie - I've seen the road "8" striking through the object the same.
By the way, routing seems to work correctly despite the broken display.
Yes - it is apparent that the clients do not use the same map as the routing servers.

We've got new World maps yesterday. Sort of. I'm becoming pretty sure, that the map tiles are actually not generated completely, just the neighborhoods of any newly modified segments'.

From the 5 broken road segments I was aware of, the latter 4 got repaired, but the first 1 remained broken. The major difference is, that I've resisted to change anything in the vicinity of the (still broken) segment, whereas there were changes done to the other ones (or near them).

Anyone else?

I always avoid editing the segments broken by the server algorithms, first because I believe they are very useful testcases for the waze developers...
Me too. I've unfortunately had just a very few cases to check. I knew about two of them that changes were done around, I've intentionally modified one of the broken segments and intentionally left one area untouched - all as a testbed for making sure (already for the second time), that the "uploaded FIX" did not fix it at all.
