I think I can report the traffic to another wazer while on the road along the trip. Anyway, the navigation on my country is impossible because mostly roads are not complete still much much more to map, you can call us 'beginner waze country' only main street or free way were map correctly, that's why I using Waze sometimes on public transportation to get an area to mapping later. Apart from speed telemetrics, there can be another serious problem: If busses are allowed to use routes that are forbidden for private vehicles, you generate problem reports on the map, or Waze might even change directions or turn permissions on it own, and will route private vehicles on bus lanes etc.

Waze will nt only learn average speeds based on your tracks, it tries to find out about allowed roads and turns as well.

First of all, do not use Waze on public transportation!

Second, yes Waze will keep running while the screen is off. Unless you stop moving for 10 minutes.

Using Waze on public transit will pollute the traffic data.

If you are on a fast train next to a slow highway, Waze will think the highway is moving faster than it is really moving.

If you are on a bus on a regular street or highway, you are probably going slower than normal traffic and making frequent stops. Both of which will make Waze think the road is moving slower than it really is and even possibly trigger automatic traffic jam alerts to other drivers.

And FYI, these are the same reasons you should not use Waze while walking, riding a bicycle, in an airplane, and in some cases even riding a motorcycle (if you are in an area that allows lane splitting).

HOV lanes are an unsolved issue at present UNLESS the HOV lanes are grade separated from the regular lanes.

I answered solely from the pollution of speed data perspective. You are correct that Waze doesn't know or care about HOV currently.
