Didn't it ask you before if you wanted to take a different route? I personally don't care for being diverted without being informed. I think it should be an option not just changed. I was diverted to a different route that ended up being an hour slower on a 4hr trip than I have averaged going the route I selected on the same weekend in the past. Another party that should have arrived 30min after me traveled the same corridor I was trying to meet up with and arrived before me. This was just with normal traffic on the route it sent me (no major accidents or mitigating circumstances). Then today I selected a route and it tried to divert me to a toll road when the vehicle I was in didn't have a tag to go that way. I know I can disable toll road routes, but when I select a path it should take me that way or ask me to change it. On longer trips sometimes current conditions aren't what they are going to be when you get there.

Please give an option to disable auto-divert. Sometimes I don't care if traffic conditions say I'm going to get there 6min sooner, I just want to go the way I want to go. I love Waze, but if I can't trust it to guide me on my selected route I'm going to have to seek another option.

Vince, thanks for the info. Given what the link said, why did Waze indicate that there was a 12 minute delay when an alternate route existed.

How often does Waze update your route based on traffic? Reason I'm asking is that I had to force update a better route by shutting down Waze and switching it on again. Shouldn't it do that on the fly?

Sorry about only posting a link earlier, I was on my phone so it was easier/quicker to just share the link on the go.

As it is written there, Waze checks for alternate routes only every 4 minutes, there is also a threshold before it will re-route you. Many people prefer to stay on major roads rather than being "too easily" re-routed on smaller roads with many more turns. (They find this annoying)
So it depends on how much time can be saved as well as the type of roads you'd have to drive through and how many additional turns there would be in the alternative road. Basically sometimes it will decide not to automatically change it if it seems "not worth it enough", but you can always manually check for alternatives and decide to follow another one.

Currently Waze doesn't allow you to change the threshold value for a re-route, but this has been requested before as some people are less annoyed by small roads than others and I understand that those people, and maybe you too, wouldn't mind being automatically re-routed more often.
