Gas Prices

Post by cherrygrovexb
Near my house is 3 gas stations. Looked as i passed and noticed one hasn't had an update on 2 weeks. Got home and was going to update only to find you are unable to update unless you are there. I never stop there and will not update while driving. Bad idea to lock out the remote edit.

Gasbuddy uses crowed sourced data the same as waze and last I heard, waze still used a 3rd party to help update gas prices. Just like in gasbuddy you can find outdated, missing and erroneously reported gas prices. Waze/the users do their best to keep them correct. A negative side effect of the point system is that some people will report gas prices even if they don't know them, which is why there is alimit on distance, as well as the number of reports to a gas station is limited by time.

If it is near your house it shouldn't be difficult to update later?

Good idea when you know that if that was possible, competing brands wouldn't hesitate to report fake higher prices or lower prices where it works in their favor, only as bait to get more Wazers in their own stations.

We had at least two examples of users who were gas stations employees in our area and that were reporting higher prices on their competitors' stations as they were driving past them. Fortunately Wazers complained and reported them, so they stopped when we asked them to, they could have been blocked.

Another reason why this is good is that in some countries it was reported that prices are updated often several times during the day. So making sure that someone updating the prices is actually within a 300m distance from the gas station is perfectly reasonable in my view to avoid many issues if you could just update anything from anywhere.
