Traffic Reporting Still Anonymous

Post by whitevango
When I first started Waze a few years ago I chose to keep my traffic posts anonymous. I decided awhile ago to supply my nickname on traffic reports by changing this setting in preferences. Even though the setting is now set to nickname, anonymous is still shown when I review traffic reports. I made this change months ago.

What can be done to change my reporting nickname?

Thanks,
Paul

What file is this in exactly? Full path would be best.

DiskAid is great for accessing files within the Waze.app on iPhones. It's how we create custom color packs/themes. :)

In DiskAid, I found the user file under Waze/Documents.

You might also check for:

Code: Select all

Realtime.Visability Driving: ReportNickname
Realtime.Name: <your username>
Realtime.Nickname: <your username>

For me, something like this happened a few weeks ago after a double server outage. My client could correctly log in to the Waze network, but has been claiming for a few days long to be set to anonymous mode and did not want to alow me to enter the Menu / Login preferences, unless I'd change my username/password - each attempt failed, because "such user already existed" (off course, myself), and "please choose a different user name".

I had to manually edit the client's "user" preference file - a row

Code: Select all

Realtime.Random user: 1
had to be replaced by

Code: Select all

Realtime.Random user: 0
and all was fine afterwards. However, it is questionable whether you can get access yo your client's Waze files?

Depends, as you know.
On my Symbian it is "/private/2001EB29/user" on the external memory card.
On Android I assume it should be "/sdcard/waze/user" AFAIK, and
on a jailbroken iOS it is said to be "/private/var/mobile/Applications/{some Waze application ID}/Documents/user".

But please don't quote me for an exact file placement :)

Anytimes, when something does not work as exected, it can be considered a bug :) That's today's life with software :|

It happens when a developer does not expect some situation, which might happen, and it indeed does happen and the SW does not respond correctly (to an unknown situation). Or the the app's behavior was not coded correctly. This happened to my client during the double server outage a month ago - the login protocol did not work correctly and the user's behavior was apparently not foreseen.
