Speedometer not very accurate

Post by bcea777
I have noticed the speedometer on the app is not very accurate at high speed (>100 km/hr), but it is at low speed (less than 40 km/hr). I've tested this in iOS and Android and it's the same issue.

This screenshot shows speed at 114 km/hr, when in theory I was traveling at 120 km/hr.

The difference is always between 5-7 km/hr.

Every car speedometer indicates a higher speed than the actual speed of travel. The difference is usually about 5%, but can be up to 10% more indicated than your actual speed.

Good read.
I guess the speedometer of my car is the wrong one.
What vehicle do you drive? Most of the wazers appear to notice less speed in the app.

Speed is fine until over 60 mpg, on my iPhone 8 Plus. Above that, shows random numbers every second. Example: 65, 46,130, 58, 95, 144, etc. Software is up to date. Have used Waze for years, with no trouble until now. Solution?

Not always, it depends on a number of factors including tire size and inflation. The speedometer in my car currently reads slightly lower than actual speed, even with the manufacturer's recommended tire size (that will change soon due to tire makers no longer making that size).

If your speedometer is significantly off, and you have a modern fly-by-wire car, your mechanic may be able to 're-tune' the speedometer if they have the right equipment. Check the speed with other sources first, if you can.

Doubt there's an issue. Waze matches my Garmin, but my speedo reading is 5-10% higher.

I'm not sure you read that all the way through, there is a lot of variability in vehicle speedometers that it makes it difficult to truly gauge the accuracy of what's presented in the app. For example I rarely see any meaningful difference between Waze and what my vehicle reads for speed.
