Can't verify my number

On Xiaomi Redmi 3 with MIUI 8 (Android 5.1) and latest Waze, I cannot enter my number to verify.
I get to the screen 'NEW NUMBER', enter my phone number, but when I tap 'Verify my number' nothing happens.

Please help.

When I log in, how do I "ask for the SMS with the code"?
It just prompted me to enter the phone # again, which I can't get over?

Had this problem as well and this solved it for me...

Go to the Search Menu and click the Settings gear.
At the bottom, click log out and say yes.
At the bottom of the next screen should be Already Wazer? USE THIS
Log in and ask for the SMS with the code.
Enter the code and it actually works!

As this is a community forum, when nobody replies it often means that nobody from the Waze community has any idea. I think you should try to reach staff and open a ticket with support.
