Is there a way to use Waze in the following way?

While navigating the screen is off. Before there is a turn or some notification about the navigation the screen turns on and shows you the map. The screen turns off again after you have taken the turn or the notification is over.

I am using Nexus 5x.

I am asking this question because a friend of mine said that on his Iphone he can use it this way with Apple Maps. So I assume that Waze must have the same functionality.
