Voice Commands reference (old) + New "OK WAZE"

Post by AlanOfTheBerg
The Wiki does have a list of voice commands, but it's not complete nor does it give any tips or list the problems. I compiled this list from usage. There may be many commands I haven't found yet.

Shortcuts for commands

The following voice commands can be issued directly without having to use "Report" or "Hazard." Often, the category and sub-category can be switched and the voice recognition will figure it out just fine. For example, "on road object" and "object on road" are equivalent.

Accident
Minor accident
Major accident

Camera
Speed camera
Fake camera
Red light camera

Traffic
Heavy traffic
Moderate traffic
Standstill traffic

Weather
Weather fog
Weather hail
Weather snow
Weather flood
Weather monsoon
Weather tornado
Weather heat wave
Weather hurricane
Weather freezing rain

On shoulder
Missing sign on shoulder
Animals on shoulder
Vehicle on shoulder

On Road
Vehicle on road
Object on road
Pothole on road
Roadkill on road
On road closed lane
Oil on road
Ice on road
Construction on road

Tips and Issues
  • In general, the words "report" and "hazard" are unnecessary.
  • "Lane closed" is extremely difficult to get recognized. My success rate is around 5%. It seems to need to be spoken very quickly and as if you were ending a question with the words. "Lane closed?" or "lnclzd?" I've played around with inflection and tone a lot and if I get repeatable success, I'll post a recording.
  • "Ice" is very hard to get recognized.

(I or other mods will add to this list based on replies.)

The secret in the phrasing, is to say "closed lane" and not "lane closed." When Waze reports back what it is reporting, it specifically says "reporting closed lane" and not "reporting lane closed." After listening to the phrase upon successfully getting Waze to report a lane closed, I now get a 75% success rate for reporting a closed lane.

Despite "car stopped on road" being a valid ASR command, it does not work. For me.

"Car stopped on road" works in the current iOS beta correctly. Unsure about Android. I will update the ASR tree once the app is released.
