Roads not visible unless zooming or moving the map

On many occasions I notice Waze having an empty map screen. The car icon is visible and both network and GPS are 'go'. Roads or anything else for that matter, are not shown. If I press the bulldozer, it starts recording as if there is no road there. However, if I move the map or press + or -(zooming) I see the roads, but as soon as I let go of the screen, the roads disappear.

Thanx! Could it be that the mapinformation for the selected zoomlevel hasn't been downloaded yet? I don't know how that works, but I could imagine that each zoomlevel has it's own tile information. Hence, if I have the map zoomed to a specific level, the information needs to be downloaded, but when I move it shows some sort of preliminary information based on different zoomlevels? Hope you can make sense of by ravings

Might have something to do with caching. Sometimes when you move the map, you drag the new map, but the old one is displayed when you stop moving (might be the other way around). Very funny behaviour.
