There is no need for fancy widgets to see if the battery is charging. Plug it into the car charger, select 'Settings / Power ' and look at the 'Battery Status' line. If it says 'Charging (USB)', you can throw away the car charger. If it says 'Charging (AC)', it's a keeper.
USB normally charges at about 100mA-300mA, which is far less than you use with the display, 3G and the GPS on.
If you look at 'Battery Use' on the same screen, a screen will open where you can see what has been using what % of battery. It also has a 'clickable' graph that shows charge / discharge cycles.
Waze is not killing the battery, it's the display that remains on. Add the GPS and 3G into the equation, and that's where 99% battery goes.
Waze shows 3% battery usage on my HTC Sensation if used ~ 2 hours per day for my commutes. Google Maps and it's background services, even though I have never used it for navigation, uses 4%.
Screen uses 60% and Wi-Fi that is on all the time uses 12%.
The best is to get a proper 'fast' charger for the car that will supply enough oomph to keep the phone afloat for your longer journeys.
yeah it shows charging (AC) i will turn down my settings and test it again...i am leaning now towards the phone itself, i say this becasue when i am in an LTE area i get spotty 3g YET my friend who has the same phone same carrier...gets LTE...i will need to look at that option as well.
in any case what is a good brand for car chargers?
any idea about why my waze has stopped the voice commands, it will sometimes say ok lets get started when an address is entered then it is silent the rest of the time...
