Why does Waze direct me to a road that is blocked

I was on a long journey this week and I heard over the radio that there was a 10 mile tailback on a road that I was about to be using
I looked on the waze map and sure enough it was showing that the road was traveling at 3 miles about for 10 miles

Yet instead of a 4 mile diversion on motorway it kept trying to get me to use the blocked M1

Why is this?

I thought the purpose was to have it redirect me away from these things

It should but without knowing more about the delay including nearby traffic or indeed the area (so we can assess the map) it's hard for us to diagnose.

Your best bet when this happens is to submit logs and follow up with an email to support stating the date and time (GMT) you sent the logs.
