You can also spell the name to Siri and it will open the app.
"Siri, Open W-A-Z-E"
EDIT: Oops, didn't realize there was 2 pages here.. Look like my post was redundant!

Ah, thanks for this thread! I struggled with Siri and Waze for the past year finally landing on "open w-a-z-e" but since the iOS 7 update I've been having limited luck with that even. I finally decided to Google it and landed here. I tried a couple of the suggestions mentioned above which didn't seem to work, but somehow I finally got Siri to pronounce the name back to me and it came out like "woz" or "was". So now when I say "open woz" it has worked for me every time! Lifesaver when trying to do everything by voice while driving!

Thanks for posting this here. Your shorter version, "launch like waze" works perfect for me.
Yes, there are way fewer syllables.

If you're jailbroken there is an app in Cydia called SiriLove. It recognizes Waze as default GPS.
So you can open Waze directly, or you can ask for directions and Siri will open Waze by default.

I had fun trying to invent ways to get Siri to open it. Finally I did it 3 ways consistently. You'll need to spell it and say the letters.
Open w-a-z-e
It also worked leaving the E off during the spelling.....Open w-a-z
I also got it to work by pronouncing it....Open Way Zay

Thank you for this tip!
Siri never seems to recognize my voice, but using your "open sounds like waze" method works for me everytime.

After Siri fails to understand you, scroll up whilst in the Siri screen, find your dictate request (e.g "Open Way"), tap on it and edit the text to what you actually said. Siri will then try to learn your accent.
