my screen goes black or dim (iOS)

all of a sudden when I use waze, which by the way is daily, I get this spotlight on the screen on where I am. it hihglights my car.. and then the whole screen raudlaly just goes black .. and then it doesnt allow me to see ahead of where any traffic buildout may be.. it just gets sticks to where I am..... what is going on? I dont need spotlight on where I am... i need to see what is coming up and the screen going black.. ugh! help!

It must be because you have auto-brightness enabled and sometimes when you move your phone in the car, the light quantity that activates the sensor will change and hence the dimming of the screen.

Sounds like the common issue of reports causing the screen to dim and it doesn't return. It's a known issue.

The forum definitely supports adding attachments. But there's been dozens of posts about it with screenshots, so it's not necessary.

I am updating in this thread as it was the first to report the screen dimming/going black issue on iOS.
According to Waze, this issue has been resolved with a server-side fix. No sure what they did, or if they just "turned something off" so the app won't try to do the pop-up spotlight or what. No details have been provided.

I've started experiencing the dimming issue in the last couple weeks.

This is happening on my iPhone as well. It started when I updated to latest version and when I am driving without navigation.
