Waze instructed a U-turn?

Hi Waze Gurus!

Just a quick question. I had a user report I fixed where Waze effectively provided a U-turn instruction. I am able to replicate it on the live map. I did not think Waze did U-turns yet? The live map shows the instruction is turn right. Is this occurring because the angle between the two opposing segments is not quite 180 degrees? If so, is there a point at which the turn will not be given?

The permalink shows the segment in question. The user was going from Rennies Rd to Moggilll Rd to the east and there is no right turn from Rennies.

Thanks for the info,
Gav...

P.S. That turn is disabled now so don't be confused by that.

Hi Guys,

Greetz from Berlin Germany.

My last piece of information is that the U-turns do not work. So what is right?

If the turn is enabled, waze will offer it, which is why we need to be sure that all turn restrictions are correct. Whilst it is effectively a u-turn, waze has no uturn instruction, so would give a turn right.

I think there is an angle where waze tries to ignore them and can cause issues if a genuine turn, but generally if its enabled, it can and will be used.

Well that entirely depends on what type of u-turn you are referring to.

There are three primary ones that I can think of at the moment.

1. The uturn at the end of a single segment, (the green uturn restriction) - These work, HOWEVER, there is no instruction, and they cause really bad route suggestions. So the current advice is to ensure these are disabled.

2. The uturns at H or box junctions where either a single track intersects a split road, or two split roads intersect. These can be configured to either work or not, depending on various settings and the layout of the junction, but the instructions can be misleading again, as you get a turn left then turn left (or right depending on which side of the road you drive on) - These are generally avoided as well.

3. Finally you have a V type u turn, where a split road runs into a non split road, Whilst uturns in the real world, waze will see them as just turns and if enabled, ( as above) waze can and will offer them.

There are various algorithms designed to prevent them in some cases. Most of which are in the wiki.
