One UR reporter recently complained about the Pahoa Bypass that should be State Hwy 150, I think it was. Then there's the Mamalahoa/Hawaii Belt Road confusion. I've tried to match signage where the changing name is concerned, but putting the route number should help, too.

Then again, you may confuse the locals who use waze. I'm sure there's a way for admin to force shields because it was once done for the freeways just not sure who would need to be contacted at this point.

From what I read, functional classification is still being developed by HIDOT, so we are stuck on that for now.

I started naming SR- because HIDOT calls the state highways Routes not Highways.

http://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/home/o ... -highways/

I haven't seen any shields on kunia road yet since it was renamed SR-750, how long did the big island highway take to get a shield?

I think we're talking about double labeling, separating with a slash. Likelike Hwy / SR 93.

Or does that kill the shields?

Yes. Duh!

But maybe the middle ground is to label the highways with the numbers but, at most major junctions, label the connector turn segments with both name and number (matching the signage).

It does seem weird to have ALL highways like this. (No "Nimitz Highway" -- really?)

P.S. Where do you read that functional classification isn't complete? Thanks!

I started doing the exits to include the SR- name so that it's called out when on the freeway and tourists will know where they're going if they are just looking at shields.

found a few powerpoint presentations that says it's still being worked on, can't remember where but it was from the HIDOT and city and county.
