Weirdness

Post by Webs101
I saw this UR: https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... 55&env=usa

He was routed through a left turn but his app told him to keep right! He sent me a screenshot of his app and you can see the left turn mapped but the "keep right" icon in the header.

Is there a problem with the intersection angles or is this an app/comms problem?

Any advice?

The street is missing a name as it passes through the intersection. If you add the name, this should resolve the directions.

I'm not familiar with this technique of removing names in intersections to prevent U-Turns. Could you share some information on this? I have always used Junction Style Guide - Avoiding U-Turns in box and partial box intersections and I've always had this work for me. I've never seen a need to remove a street name, and with a quick search I have been unable to find anything for this. Can you please help point me at this info, because I may have a lot of intersections to work on.

Webs101 - Try to straight the angle to 0 degree and see if you see a change in the behaviour.
If it wouldn't help, you may need to name the segments and add a new dedicated u-turn segment from each direction it is allowed.
The 15m was never absolute. I have seen cases where it was allowed even when the segment was shorter. We need JB to come back.

Pretty much. Since it's unnamed, the 4 degrees departure angle is enough to trigger a prompt.

So the fix is to straighten the intersection, because adding the name would allow U-turns, right?

This construction seems common - why haven't we seen more complaints like this?

I could swear at some point the recommendation for avoiding U-turns was >15m and no name on the segment. That seems to be obsolete now, if it ever actually existed.

Yeah, I was going to do that but I wanted to wait until I got advice.
